Michael and Emily Eavis Interview:
ME: Michael Eavis EE: Emily Eavis
1. The DVD holds a fantastic collection of past Glastonburys- why did you decide to release it?
ME: Why now? It's probably a marketing thing. There's a need for it. Glastonbury has been around for 35 years and we haven't released anything commercially until now.
2. What performances stand out for you both from the DVD?
ME: There was loads of good stuff in there. The "Hey Jude" by Paul McCartney has to be the best thing historically, in regards to the Beatles.
EE: I say Radiohead in 97, an amazing gig; Primal Scream and the Chemical Brothers that time when the fence came down
ME: What about Robbie? He wasnt gonna do it and I asked his agent and he said he isn't ready. So I said "he'll cope with it", let's take a chance. It was one of his first big gigs after Take That and you (EE) where encouraging me so we kept on at the agent and he finally did. He ended up singing 'Angels', which was fantastic.
EE: A real classic moment
ME:
and he said "I've done it, I've done it" and at that moment he became a star EE: We had never had anything poppy especially as it was the Saturday afternoon- in the mud but a real turning point nevertheless. ME I saw him at an airport and said "Are u that farmer bloke" "yes I am" so he said "that was the beginning of my new career, thank you very much"
3. When did the Cameras come to Glastonbury
EE: '94, channel 4 did it first and BBC started in '95
4. How were the tracks for the DVD chosen?
EE: We had a vote on the website, 30,000 voted for varied stuff. Paul McCartney got the most votes then it was Radiohead. ME:
