The Real Slim Shaky!
JS: I know you went through a few songs when choosing one for the show. Why did you finally chose Trouble? SS: There was a list of 200 and you had to choose from the list. I did have two others in mind. I chose Pink and it was quite different for me to do, a male voice doing a female song is also different. But a lot of people said it suits my voice and it seems to work.
JS: What were the other tracks that you thought as 'possibles'? SS: one was Feeder and one was KT Tunstall, Black Horse and Cherry Tree, it would have been great to do. We met KT last week and we were chatting. We like her stuff quite a lot.
JS: Have you considered doing an album of covers a la Rod Stewart? SS: It's a possibility to go that way but it would be nice to do a newer album as well. It's possible because of the Pink thing...maybe there are more surprises. No one would expect me to do a Feeder cover!
The main thing at the moment is the 'Trouble' single. It's a double A-Side, released June 13th. The other track, ''This Ole House' and the reason is that these two tracks were used on the show.
JS: Did you expect to win the show? SS: Not really no.
JS: When you came on thought it's you that's going to win, it's got to be you... SS: I thought it could be anybody. Yeah I've had more hits than them but it could be anybody. There was some tough competition. It wasn't a push over by any means.
JS: What did it mean to you winning that? SS: if I hadn't had a release out I wouldn't have done the show, definitely not.
JS Why?! SS: It was very stressful, especially for the other artists because they never had a reason... I suppose they wanted to revive their careers and things like that. For me the release was all set up before 'Hit Me Baby...', it was set for release in Denmark, where it went straight to number one and Sony/BMG went through that merge situation and they went for it. Then I did the live gig in Shepherd's bush, so the Saturday TV thing was just to to reach the audience. If people don't know about it, they're not going to buy it. so it was just basically making people aware, well here it is, it's out there if people are going to buy it, they'll buy it but no one's got a gun to their head!
