Danny and Richard Talk Exclusively to The Raft
An Interview With Embrace
How does it feel third time round?
Richard -It kinda feels fresher. We did it a lot quicker than we did the first two. The first two, took about a year each, and this one took about eight months. I think that's just because we are learning what we're about, and how to do what we do.
Have you got any ideas for the next album already you wrote this album quickly?!
Richard- We're kinda working on it in our heads.
Danny- It's kinda a rolling process, there's stuff that we didn't manage to finish for this album that will go on to the fourth, there's a couple of songs on this album 'Make It Last' and 'Satellites' that were both songs that we didn't manage to conquer or get right. We're never looking at a blank page when we are getting together songs to make up a album.
It's kind of like instead of distinct albums it's almost more a time line?
Danny- yeah there's definitely a thread I think, but we are trying with each album to move forward creatively and musically. Although some of the songs date back from the second album, musically we are doing a completely different thing.
How does Ken Nelson compare, because I thought that you we're quite happy with Tristan?
Danny- Well we wanted to do it with Tris again but we got Ken's name out of a hat because he (Tristan) was working on the Cast album at the time. And when we wanted to start sessions for our third album,.
Richard- I didn't want to be away from home because I'd just had a baby, and he didn't want to be away from home, so we went our separate ways. Danny- Ken's a gentle genius he's really clever. The record company suggested him after he worked with Gomez before, as being someone who helps you reach the place you are trying to get to. And that's exactly what he did, the first couple of weeks he was very quiet didn't really say much and we didn't really listen to him because we kinda produce ourselves really. And then after a while we realised that everything that he had been saying kind of bared out to be true and so we started listening to him and then things started to work out a lot better than they had been doing. He's like a dungeon master or something he's very old and wise, although he's not really old he's only 40 but he seems like an old head on young shoulders really. The way he can sort of manipulate an atmosphere in a room for the better is just pretty amazing to watch really.
