Agent Sumo Interview
Welcome back. Since we last spoke to you '24 hours' blew up. You've got a new single coming out 'Why', could you tell us a bit about it?
Steven: It's mine and Martin's attempt at making a pop records, we've made loads of different styles and we wondered how it would turn out if we did a pop record. We've done a couple of remixes for the clubs as well and it seems to be getting well received.
So are you looking for good things in the charts for it?
Steven: I never look for good things in the charts, but it would be nice if it did. The charts are just a reflection of what's popular really. I think unless you're a boy band these days you struggle to do really well, but I suppose we are a boy band, but if it gets in the charts then great, if it doesn't it doesn't matter because it is what it is.
You've had a bit of help from John 'Jelly bean' Benitez, who's had a string of hits behind him. He's been turning things down for the last ten years or so, how the hell did you manage to get that?
Steven: I think we must of greased his palms with silver maybe, I don't know but when we made that record the sample that we used kind of sounded like one of his eighties records. When we were thinking of who we were going to get to remix it just seemed obvious that he would be the first choice. Because he was doing all the Madonna stuff and he really was the leading figure in the eighties for disco that we would get him to remix it hoping and thinking that he would do it in a kind of eighties style, but he did a tribal house mix instead.
I was going to say it's a bit more upbeat
Steven: Well its modern, I don't know why we thought he wouldn't have done that, but it's really good and people in that scene are definitely feeling it
So you're happy with the mix then?
Steven: Yeah
Where you a fan of his stuff before?
Steven: I was a fan of his eighties stuff, absolutely. I hate progressive house, so no offence Jelly bean
