Kelis - London Astoria
News that Kelis would be performing a one of show in London had evidently spread around, and the excitement was becoming harder to contain. When the night finally came, this was highly evident as crowds filled the Astoria, waiting in anticipation. The shows' beginning was an exhibition of Urban rhythm, with dancing and vocal warming up the crowds, until we were greeted with the presence of the ultimate exhibitionist. Herself - Kelis
Dressed in her streetwise concept of fashion consisting of all things that didn't match, she burst into the opening track of the concert. The crowds were going wild and well up for the idea of spending two hours with the most gorgeous woman in town. During the course of evening several fans were invited up to the stage - due to them all having birthdays ! They danced around, as Kelis spread her magic through out the track "Ghetto", the track that really brought the fans to their feet. The sheer delight at the sound of her voice. It's powerful yet somehow so delicate, earthly and she is one that has theatrical grace. She has been knocked down, like we all have. However she got up and used her voice, and not all of us do that ! So this was a real treat for the dedicated fans. The night was full of excitement as rumors flew around that material from the new album would be performed and they were not disappointed.
A new track called ' Little Suzie ' had a samba / salsa feel that continued to liven the audience. Containing an infectious chorus and memorable lyrics this song is sure to top the charts all over the world as a single alone. The thing about Kelis and her performances is the fact; she has the ability to over exceed people's expectations. This is a good sign for works to come from her in the future. A slow ballad called ' Perfect day ', showed her sides of versatility in the strength of her voice. Its somewhat haunting sound, could prove to be a good album filler.
During the course of the evening fans were graced with cover versions of the songs that Kelis said ' Had spoken to her in some way '. She sung ' Sweet Dreams ' in an excellent manner, which had the crowds cheering and mouthing the words. Her voice majestically glided through the track exactly the way it did also through ' Teen Spirit '. Miss Kelis had defiantly done her homework, in regards to giving her fans life. Then the time had come as Kelis left the stage for the night, knowing full well she would be back on to generate her magic. As the crowds chanted KE-LIS, KE-LIS, she ran on to the stage as if it were her second home. Clutching a towel she burst into the encores, and through it out to the audience, as dedicated fans scrambled on top of one an other, to get a hold on something that everyone wanted a piece of. The whole evening was unbelievable and the excitement for the album is riding high on the Kelis-o-metre. For those of you who missed this time around, don't miss the next..
