The Music - UEA Norwich, 13/10/01
It's still early days of course. But hard not to get excited.
Supporting The Charlatans isn't easy, but The Music manage to turn all heads tonight. There's little banter, but Rob Harvey's voice and presence filled the stage, despite his tiny frame, and new single 'You Might As Well Try To Fuck Me', old favourite (already!) 'Take The Long Road And Walk It' and the awesome 'The Walls Get Smaller' rocked the venue. Lazy references to the Verve, Roses, Led Zep, are rendered pointless. It's very obvious that it's about the band being more than the sum of its parts, not about being rooted in the past but living for the future. A new sound, music made by young people who listen to dance next to rock next to hip-hop next to disco next to indie. Groove-based beauty for a young audience...The Music are claiming these people as their own.
So young, so invincible, and they're gonna get better. Looking forward to it...
